Some interesting stuff

SS7 - Signalling System 7

Introduction

I am from the city of Bangalore. Bangalore is known as the garden city of India and is in the southern state of Karnataka. It is also the silicon valley of India. I was born in Madras in Tamil Nadu. But I have been brought up entirely in Bangalore. As a kid, I used to visit Madras every summer.

I am an easy going, reserved kind of person. I am usually found only in the company of a select few people. You will hardly find me in any small talk. I am seldom found hanging around with friends without a good reason.

I have always wanted to be a pilot. I have always wanted to join the Indian Air Force. Even now, given the chance, I will happily join the IAF. But if I do join the IAF, I will only join as a flying officer and not as a member of technical staff. Given my physique, I doubt if I will ever make it.

My interests

I love nature. Many times, I escape to some isolated place where I can enjoy nature in all its splendor. However, it is hard to find company and whenever I don't find any, I go alone. I enjoy sitting on the bunds of lakes and gazing away at sheep and cattle grazing away peacfully.

I love animals. I like dogs the most. I had a cute little pomeranian called Vicky. She died after a surgery. Now my house is swarming with kittens! There are about six cats and kittens in my house now!

Electronics

I had a very a keen interest in electronics when I was in school. This also won me a couple of accolades in high school. I started with an electronic kit and then went on to building circuits on my own printed circuit boards. I later imagined and designed circuits for various fancy devices. I almost never built complete devices. Some of my exciting projects were
  • Bicycle odometer using a calculator
  • Fire work detonator - complete with 7 segment time display!!
  • Out ball indicator for tennis courts
    - won 2nd prize at IETE.
  • Timer cum stop watch cum electronic dice cum ....
    - won 3rd prize at IETE.
  • Z80 microprocessor kit - never completed due to lack of funds.
  • Hi funda automatic water level controller.
  • Sound activated flash for stop action photography
  • Listening bugs! For eaves dropping on girls!!

Photography

Though a very interesting hobby of mine, I have not been able to spend much time on it because it is too expensive. I own a Minolta X-700 camera. Some of the pics I have taken are here. I tried to build an enlarger myself but never managed to make it light proof. I wish to dedicate some time and money to this hobby once I finish college.

Sports

I have never been good at any sport!! However, I used to cycle long distances when I was in school. I used to cycle some 35kms up & another 35kms back to my favourite place, T.G.Halli resorvoiur outside Bangalore. But now I dont have the time for it.
I have been trying to learn to swim for the past 1 year! No matter how hard I try, I simply cant swim!
I used to practice shooting with an air pistol. I seem to be a good shot.

Fantasies

  • Planes - f16, stealth, MIGs, Mirages and Micro-lites.
  • Cars - Porsche, BMW and Benz in that order
  • Motor Bikes
  • Cruise boats

Academic background

Schooling

I did my schooling at B. P. Indian Public School in Bangalore. Though I stood among the top 10 in my secondary school and amognst the top 5 in high school, no one (including me!) gave me enough credit for it!! But I was known for my practical science knowledge and capabilities. In high school, in two consecutive years, I won 2nd and 3rd places in electronic exhibition competition conducted by the Institute of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers, Bangalore. The next year I all was set to participate in the state level electronic exhibitions, when a nasty bicycle crash prevented me from participating in the event.

Pre-University

I completed my Pre-University college at the Vijaya College, Bangalore.
Pre-university was rather uneventful.

My school and pre-university marks are here.

Graduation

I am from one of Bangalore's premier academic insitutes, the M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology. I am currenlty pursuing the Bachelor's Degree course in Computer Science & Engineering offered by the Bangalore University. I am ranked 1st in my class, being the topper in 4 out 6 semesters I have completed so far.
My scores in the first 6 semesters are here.

During my second year, an inter-collegiate fest was held. I participted in a debate and jeopardy. The topic of the debate was 'Is religion the opium of the masses?' I won the 2nd prize in it!

During my seventh semester, another inter-collegiate fest was held in the Bangalore Institute of Technology. I participated in a technical seminar contest. I delivered a seminar on data mining for which I won a computer as the FIRST PRIZE!!

Near the end of the 7th semester, few of us from our class went on trek to Yedukumeri. To read more about this exciting trek, click here!
